Atma Sanatan ("we", "us", "our") is an independent app developed and operated by the team behind AtmaSanatan. We are committed to handling your personal information with care, transparency, and respect — the same values that guide the spiritual traditions our app is built around.

This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you use the Atma Sanatan app, why we collect it, how we use it, who we share it with, and what rights you have over your data. Please read it carefully. By using the app, you agree to the practices described here.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Information you provide directly

Phone number — required to create an account and receive a one-time password (OTP) for login.
Name — optional, provided during onboarding to personalise your experience.
Date of birth — optional, used to generate personalised panchang and rashifal content.
Rashi (zodiac sign) — optional, selected during onboarding for personalised daily horoscope.
Language preference — the language (Hindi, English, Marathi, or others added in future) in which you prefer to receive content.
Email address — optional, for account recovery and service communications.

1.2 Information collected automatically

Device information — device model, operating system version, app version, unique device identifiers.
Usage data — features accessed, content viewed or played, session duration, search queries within the app.
Crash and performance data — error logs, stack traces, and performance metrics collected automatically to improve app stability.
Approximate location — derived from your IP address for localised panchang calculations (city-level only; we do not access GPS).
IP address — collected as part of standard network requests.

1.3 Payment information

If you purchase a subscription, make an in-app purchase, or donate, payment is processed entirely by the platform store (Google Play or Apple App Store) or a third-party payment processor. We do not receive or store your card number, bank account details, or UPI credentials. We receive only a confirmation of the transaction and, where applicable, a subscription status.

2. How We Use Your Information

Account creation and authentication — to verify your identity via OTP and maintain your account.
Personalisation — to display your rashi-specific rashifal, localised panchang, and content in your preferred language.
App improvement — to understand how features are used, diagnose errors, and improve the experience.
Communications — to send OTP messages, important service updates, and (with your consent) promotional notifications.
Analytics — to measure aggregate usage trends, feature adoption, and content preferences.
Safety and integrity — to detect and prevent fraud, abuse, or violations of our Terms of Use.
Legal compliance — to meet obligations under applicable Indian law and, where relevant, international privacy regulations.

3. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services. Each has its own privacy policy that governs how they handle data.

We do not sell your personal data to any third party, including advertisers.

If we display third-party advertisements in the future, those ad networks may use cookies or advertising identifiers to show relevant ads. We will update this policy and provide opt-out mechanisms before enabling advertising.

3A. International Data Transfers

Some of our third-party service providers — including Firebase (Google), Mixpanel, and Cloudflare — are headquartered or operate servers in the United States and other countries outside India. When you use the Service, your personal data may be transferred to and processed in these countries, which may have different data protection laws than India.

We take steps to ensure that such transfers are subject to appropriate safeguards consistent with the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023. By using the Service, you acknowledge and consent to the transfer of your information to our service providers in other countries for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy.

For EU / UK users: Where personal data is transferred outside the EEA or UK, we rely on the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) or equivalent mechanisms, as implemented by our sub-processors, to ensure an adequate level of protection.

4. Content and Algorithmic Curation

Atma Sanatan provides a large library of devotional content including shlokas, bhajans, mantras, and their translations and audio renditions. Some of this content — particularly translations, audio narrations, and content summaries — is produced or refined through automated computational processes. All such content is reviewed for accuracy and reverence to the traditions it represents, and is offered solely for devotional and educational purposes.

Your usage data (content you engage with, your rashi, and your language preference) informs how content is surfaced to you. We do not build inferred psychological profiles or use your data for purposes outside the app.

5. Data Retention

We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we delete your personal information within 30 days, except where retention is required by law or legitimate business necessity (such as fraud prevention records, which are retained for up to 3 years).

Anonymised and aggregated analytics data (which cannot identify you) may be retained indefinitely to understand long-term usage trends.

6. Your Rights

You have the right to:

Access the personal data we hold about you.
Correct inaccurate or incomplete information via your in-app profile settings.
Delete your account and associated personal data through the account deletion option in the app's settings, or by contacting us at legal@atmasanatan.com. We will process the deletion within 30 days.
Withdraw consent for notifications at any time through your device settings.
Object to processing of your data for analytics purposes — contact us and we will exclude you.

We will respond to all valid requests within 30 days, as required under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (DPDP Act).

For EU / UK users: If you access the app while located in the European Economic Area or United Kingdom, you have additional rights under the GDPR / UK GDPR, including the right to data portability and to lodge a complaint with your supervisory authority. We rely on legitimate interests and, where applicable, consent as our legal basis for processing.

7. Children's Privacy

Atma Sanatan is designed for all ages and contains devotional and spiritual content appropriate for the whole family. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13 without verifiable parental consent. If a parent or guardian believes their child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at legal@atmasanatan.com and we will promptly delete that information.

Account registration (which requires a phone number) is intended for users aged 13 and above. Younger children may use the app in a guest capacity to access freely available content.

8. Data Security

We implement industry-standard technical and organisational measures to protect your personal information — including encrypted data transmission (HTTPS/TLS), access controls, and secure cloud infrastructure. However, no system is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security of your data.

9. Cookies and Tracking Technologies

The Atma Sanatan mobile app does not use browser cookies. However, our marketing website (atmasanatan.com) may load resources from third parties such as Google Fonts, which can set cookies or similar tracking technologies in your browser. These are used solely for font delivery and basic analytics; we do not use cookies to track you across third-party sites.

You can control or disable cookies through your browser settings. Note that disabling certain cookies may affect the appearance or functionality of our website. Our mobile app is not affected by browser cookie settings.

If we introduce interest-based advertising or additional analytics cookies on the website in the future, we will provide a cookie consent mechanism before doing so.

10. Applicable Law

This Privacy Policy is governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of India, including:

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes through an in-app notice or a push notification before the changes take effect. Continued use of the app after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
